Springfield Armor News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MA March 3, 2010 - Squaring off against one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, the Springfield Armor fell, 128-97, to the Sioux Falls Skyforce Wednesday night at the MassMutual Center. Playing without leading scorer Reggie Williams, recently called up to the NBA's Golden State Warriors, the Skyforce got a huge game from Alexander Johnson, who scored 31 points and ripped down 9 rebounds. Justin Hawkins led five Armor players in double figures with 25 points.

Armor guard Kyle McAlarney came out on fire in the first quarter, hitting five of his first six shots and scoring ten quick points. Hawkins continued his recent hot streak and scored 17 points in the first half. Hawkins has averaged 31.5 points per game over the past four games. Despite McAlarney and Hawkins's scoring, Springfield still trailed 51-61 at halftime and also lost guard Tony Bobbitt to an ankle injury early in the first half. He would not return. The Skyforce, owners of the third best record in the Eastern Conference, shot a blistering 53% percent in the half and were led by Johnson's 19 points.

Springfield went on a 7-0 run early in the third quarter, including back-to-back alley-oop dunks by Marcus Campbell, and cut the lead to just three points. Sioux Falls pushed the lead back up to 11 by the end of the quarter as Springfield missed their outside shots and the Skyforce were all over the defensive boards. After an Alexander Johnson three-point play in the final seconds, the Skyforce entered the fourth quarter up 90-76.

Skyforce forward Raymond Sykes picked up his sixth personal foul early in the fourth quarter and fouled out after playing just 12 minutes, but Sioux Falls still held a sizable advantage throughout the quarter. The Armor wouldn't get any closer than 14 the rest of the way. Springfield fell to 6-28 on the year and Sioux Falls improved to 22-15.

Kyle McAlarney scored 18 points for Springfield. Dante Milligan contributed a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jared Newson had 31 points for the Skyforce.

These same two teams face off again tomorrow night at the MassMutual Center for College Knight. All college students can get a $5 ticket by showing their student ID at the box office. The game tips off at 7 pm.
