Armor Fall In Final Homestead

SPRINGFIELD, MA April 1, 2010 - Fan Appreciation Knight started off with a bang as 4,481 fans packed the MassMutual Center for the last Springfield Armor home game of their inaugural season. While improving in the second half the Armor ultimately fell to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 100-83 in their second of two games.

The first quarter was an offensive show put on by both teams. The Mad Ants were lead by Oliver Lafayette with 11 points and Armor's Justin Hawkins lead Springfield with 7. The Armor shot 66.7% from beyond the arch outscoring the Mad Ants who shot 42.9%. Fort Wayne was able to come away with the lead in the first quarter 24-16 by shooting 18 points in the paint over the Armor's two.

Three minutes into the second quarter Dante Milligan brought the crowd to an uproar as he pulled a spin move off the back of a Fort Wayne defender and laid the ball up for an easy two points. Hawkins followed with his own layup and the Armor were within 7. Both teams racked up 7 fouls in the second quarter but the Mad Ants would outshoot the Armor 75%- 66.7% at the free throw line. At the end of the half the Mad Ants lead 52-35 largely in part of the 14 Armor turnovers. Fort Wayne only had 5.

In the third quarter Robert Kurz and Lafayette combined to take the Mad Ants offense to the next level. The two added 18 points to the Fort Wayne's total of 78. Armor's 6' 2'' guard, Abdula Jalloh, spiked fan interest with a steal and a reverse dunk with 3:35 left in the third. The Armor would score 25 points to the Mad Ants' 26 but still the lead was in Fort Wayne's favor 78-60

The fourth quarter would also prove to be an equal shooting percentage. For the first time in the game the Armor outscored their opponents 23-22. Tre Whitted lead the Armor with 21 points and the Mad Ants were lead by Kurz with 27. Springfield attempted to make a comeback with a Tre Whitted three pointer and a Chris Ayers slam dunk, but Fort Wayne took advantages of the Armor's turnovers scoring an extra 29 points. The damage was proven done in the first half and the Fort Wayne Mad Ants beat the Springfield Armor 100-83.

The Springfield Armor hits the road for their last game of the season against the Erie Bayhawks on Friday April 2.
