
Armor Acquire Sundiata Gaines Via Trade with Austin

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield Armor, presented by MGM Springfield, announced Friday that it has acquired former Nets guard Sundiata Gaines from the Austin Toros in exchange for Bakersfield's 2014 third round draft choice (originally obtained by Springfield).
Gaines, 27, played parts of three seasons in the NBA with four different organizations, making his NBA debut in January of 2010 after playing collegiately at the University of Georgia.
The Jamaica, New York native debuted with the Utah Jazz during the 2009-10 season, playing in 32 games and averaging 3.3 points. Gaines spent time with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors and Nets during the 2010-11 campaign before playing in 57 games (12 starts) with the Nets in 2011-12.
Gaines has played in 113 career NBA games (12 career starts). During his 2011-12 stint with the Nets, he averaged 5.1 points and 2.2 assists per game over 13.9 minutes on the floor. Over five career playoff games (all with the Jazz in 2009-10), Gaines totaled 11 points.
He spent part of one season in the NBA Development League prior to 2013-14, playing in 14 games (eight starts) with the Idaho Stampede in 2009-10. During that time, Gaines averaged 23.9 points, 6.9 assists and 2.3 steals per game. Gaines was obtained by the Toros through the waiver process on January 31, 2014. The former Georgia Bulldog played six games with Besiktas (Turkey), averaging 10.7 points per game before being acquired by Austin. He has also played professionally overseas in China and Georgia.
In exchange for Gaines, the Armor dealt the Bakersfield Jam's third round draft pick in the 2014 NBA D-League Draft to the Toros. Springfield originally acquired Bakersfield's third round pick on January 2, 2014 in exchange for guard JamesOn Curry.
The Armor return to action on tonight when Springfield hosts the Erie BayHawks at 7:00 p.m. inside the MassMutual Center. The night will also include Steal's Birthday Bash as the Armor celebrate the fifth birthday of their beloved mascot, Steal!
