Arizona Slips Past Amarillo

Amarillo, TX 1/31/10 - The Amarillo Gorillas fell in their 24th one-goal game Sunday night, losing 3-2 to the Arizona Sundogs.

After a back and forth affair for most of the first period, Captain Gordon Bell drew a penalty with less than four minutes to go in the frame, giving Amarillo a power-play opportunity. Rookie defenseman Andy Brennan slipped past his defender and poked home his shot in between the circles for his fourth marker on the year. Amarillo 1 Arizona 0 after one.

Despite allowing two power-play goals in the second period, goaltender Tuomas Lohtander stood on his head, as he stopped 14 of Arizona's 16 shots on goal in the frame (the Gorillas had 4 shots on net). At the end of two periods of play, Arizona 2 Amarillo 1.

The Gorillas drew within one with a power-play goal, as David Nimmo hammered home his sixteenth goal on the season with less than two minutes remaining in the frame. Amarillo did not score with the empty net and fell 3-2.

With two power-play markers, the Gorillas have scored 8 man-advantage goals in their last 6 home games...Amarillo is 10-8-6 in one-goal games this season...with his third period goal, David Nimmo extends his home point streak to 4 contests.

The Gorillas head to South Texas this weekend for two games in three days, the first versus the Corpus Christi IceRays Thursday, February 4th. The game broadcast will start at 6:55pm CST and can be followed on 1440 AM ESPN Radio and CHL-TV. Fans will have an opportunity to win an autograph photo of a Gorillas player during the second period of the game broadcast by answering a trivia question on the Gorillas' Facebook page.
