Bucks Fall Short In Odessa 4-3

ODESSA, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Odessa Jackalopes 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Ector County Coliseum. The Bucks lose their second straight game as they fall to 19-15-7 (45 points). Laredo dropped into fourth place in the Southern Conference as Texas defeated Tulsa.

Joel Martin stopped 45 shots in net for Odessa while Jeff Bes picked up two goals for Laredo in defeat. Bes moves into a tie for 22nd place in CHL history with 194 career goals.

The Jackalopes (34-6-4) took an early 1-0 lead over the Bucks 5:30 into the first period. Mike Ramsay picked the puck up at center ice and skated down the right wing and then slammed a slap shot into the back of the net. The strike was Ramsay's 19th of the season.

The Bucks tied the game at 1-1 with 5:41 left in the first period when they struck on the power-play for the third straight game. Mike Looby hammered a slap shot in from the point to score his seventh of the campaign. Looby has scored a power-play goal in two straight games.

Laredo outshot Odessa in the first period 15-11.

Odessa re-took the lead just 2:06 into the second period when Sebastien Thinel snuck a shot in from the bottom of the right circle to pick up his 11th of the season.

Laredo would battle back to tie the game at 2-2 a little over one minute later when Bes tipped in Jarred Mohr's slap shot from the point.

Odessa had a chance to take the lead on a penalty shot at the 11:46 mark of the period but Dominic Levelle's attempt went wide of the net.

The 'Jacks would jump back in front with 2:59 left in the second as Jeff Pierce slammed home a slap shot from the top of the right circle on the man advantage. Pierce has 21 markers this season.

Laredo outshot Odessa 14-7 in the second.

Phillipe Plante put Odessa up 4-2 just 3:19 into the third period when he jammed in a shot from the left side of the crease with the Jackalopes having an extra attacker as Laredo took a penalty.

Bes would score with just nine seconds left in the game with an extra attacker to cut Odessa's lead to 4-3. Laredo lost the ensuing face off and the Jackalopes ran out the clock to seal the win.

Laredo outshot Odessa 48-30 for the game.

Pier Pelletier fell to 0-4-1 in net for the Bucks as he stopped 26 of 30 shots in defeat.

The Bucks played with just 14 skaters Sunday as Mark O'Leary (lower-body) and Igor Agarunov (lower-body) missed the game with injures.
