Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 31)- Just short of red shiny shoes and a dog named Toto, the Brahmas looked as if "there is no place like home" Sunday afternoon at the NYTEX Sports Centre as they broke their three game losing streak against the Tulsa Oilers in a 5-2 win.
In order to break the funk they have been facing as of late, the Brahmas needed a great start, but instead the luck of the draw went to Oilers forward Jeff Gumaer who beat Texas goalie Brett Jaeger with Tulsa's second shot of the game 119 seconds into the period. The goal didn't disgruntle the Texas bench as Tyler Skworchinski and his linemates Jason Deitsch and Jordan Cameron evened things seven minutes later with Skworchinski's team leading 15th of the season.
Tulsa's offensive threat, T.J. Caig was sentenced to the penalty box for a hooking call, but it only spelled trouble for Texas when the his time expired and he took off out of the sin bin and beat Jaeger on the backhand to regain the lead. Skworchinski took a feed from Cameron and Deitsch in front of Kevin Armstrong's net and went top shelf for his second goal of the game and a tied game heading into intermission.
The Brahmas gained their first lead of the game when James Hiebert fed Ross Rouleau to Armstrong's right for his second goal of the season. A struggling Texas powerplay had just the remedy to aid the pain when Cameron found a sneaking Kevin McLeod for a 4-2 lead with just under a minute to play in the second. Headed into the game the Brahmas powerplay was an outstanding 22.6 percent with the man advantage against Tulsa. Tempers flared when Caig took a run at Justin Kinnunen with :17 seconds remaining in the game, resulting with a game misconduct to both Caig and Brahmas forward Hiebert.
A second powerplay goal from Texas, Cameron's fourth point of the night, put Texas up 5-2 and they never looked back ending their three game winless streak. Jaeger stopped 35 shots for the victory and the Brahmas powerplay went 2 for 7 and the PK unit was flawless killing all seven Tulsa opportunities.
Texas will be on the road again beginning Friday in Corpus Christi for a 7:05 PM faceoff. On Saturday the I-20 rivals will be reacquainted when the Brahmas visit the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the CenturyTel Center for a 7:05 PM start. The Brahmas will return to the NYTEX Sports Centre Friday, February 12 when they host the Laredo Bucks.
