Odessa Jackalopes News Release

(Odessa, TX) - Phil Plante's third period, power play goal was enough for the Odessa Jackalopes as they held on for a 4-3 win over the Laredo Bucks at the Ector County Coliseum on Sunday evening. The win extends Odessa's unbeaten streak to 9-0-1 in their last 10 games, and their record in one-goal games to 17-4-4 this season.

Plante scored from the front of the net on a centering pass from Jeff Pierce at 3:19. With the extra attacker on the ice, Laredo's Jeff Bes scored with nine seconds left in the game to close the gap to 4-3.

Joel Martin made 45 saves, three shy of his season-high, for his 18th win of the season. The Jackalopes extend their first place lead in the Southern Conference to 13 points over second place Allen.

Odessa opened up the first period scoring with a two-on-one rush. Mike Ramsay carried the puck into the right circle of the zone and dragged it around the Laredo defender before lifting a shot into the top corner at 5:30. Laredo tied the game up with a power play goal from Mike Looby at 14:19.

The Jackalopes added a pair of goals in the second period starting with Sebastien Thinel's at 2:06 from Plante and James Sanford. Laredo tied the game once again on a power play goal from Jeff Bes at 3:57. Mohr's slap shot from the right point deflected off Bes in front of the net. Pierce then put the Jacks ahead with a power play goal of his own at 17:01. The forward skated along the blue line in the offensive zone before his slap shot from the top of the right circle beat Pier Pelletier for his 21st of the season. Odessa led, 3-2, entering the second break.

Dominic Leveille was awarded a penalty shot in the second period, but did not convert the opportunity. It was Odessa's second straight game with a penalty shot.

The Jackalopes continue their home stretch on Tuesday when they welcome the Corpus Christi IceRays to the Coliseum. Game time is set for 7:05 PM. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.
