Arizona Rattlers News Release
PHOENIX - The Arizona Rattlers have signed former University of Arizona Wildcat Brandon Phillip, head coach Gene Nudo announced today.
OL/DL Brandon Phillips (6'8", 319) will join the Rattlers after a successful Wildcat career, and a brief stint with the New Orleans Saints.
"He is a very talented player," said Nudo. "He played both sides of the ball at the University of Arizona."
Phillips made the switch from defensive line to offensive line at the beginning of 2001 spring practice and worked primarily at right tackle. Phillips started the first three games of the 2003 season at right tackle before a knee injury ended his season. He was considered the UA's top senior pro prospect prior to the injury.
Phillips was granted a rare sixth year of NCAA eligibility with the help of UA's Mike Stoops during his inaugural coaching season. Phillips played the 2004 season as a sixth-year senior. The NCAA normally gives students five years to complete four years of athletics. Phillips redshirted for the Wildcats in 1999.
Phillips is a Chandler native and a 1999 graduate of Corona del Sol High School in Tempe. Phillips was named to the Dallas Morning News National 100 selection, PrepStar All-American honors, and was ranked No. 39 nationally by the National Recruiting Advisor. Phillips was also the recipient of the Frank Kush Award which is given annually to the best offensive lineman in the state of Arizona
The Rattlers will kick off their 16th season in 2007. Rattlers season tickets can be purchased by calling 602-514-8383.
