Toronto Argonauts News Release
Toronto - During the Toronto Argonauts annual Season Ticket Holder Town Hall event held tonight at Second City Theatre in downtown Toronto, the club officially announced plans to celebrate the historic 1983 Grey Cup championship team! Argos legendary Head Coach, Bob O'Billovich and Hall of Fame OL Dan Ferrone were both at the Town Hall. Ferrone modeled one of the replica of the jerseys that the 2013 team will wear on the field on August 23 at Rogers Centre.
For one game only this season, the Argos will go back in time and sport a 1983-style uniform including jersey, helmet and logo reminiscent of the team that captured the hearts of the city. 19 players from the historic championship team have already confirmed their attendance including the legendary quarterback tandem of Condredge Holloway and Grey Cup Offensive MVP, Joe Barnes, Grey Cup Defensive MVP, Carl Brazley, as well as 1983 East Division Most Outstanding Player, and the first Argonaut to catch for more than 2,000 yards in a season, Terry Greer!
Online contests will be hosted through argonauts.ca and team social media platforms for fans to win exclusive experiences like a private meet & greet with the team, a special 1983 team autograph session will be held the day of the game, special ticket pricing will be available for this game only, and much more. Closer to the game, details will be released on how fans can purchase 1983 commemorative jerseys and merchandise.
November 27, 1983 marked the end of a 31-year championship drought as the Toronto Argonauts beat the B.C. Lions 18-17 in front of nearly 60,000 fans at B.C. Place Stadium. 30 years later and less than a year after winning the 100th Grey Cup, the Toronto Argonauts will celebrate one of the greatest victories this city and country has ever seen.
The Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, celebrating their 140th anniversary in 2013. As Toronto's #1 community team through player involvement, community programs and The Argos Foundation, the Toronto Argonauts, a member of the Canadian Football League (CFL), have 16 Grey Cup championships to their credit.
