Toronto Argonauts News Release
Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to announce that it has extended the contract of QB Kerry Joseph through 2010.
Commented Joseph, "I feel great about this extension. I'm really happy to have a couple more years in Toronto. I feel the organization is going in the right direction and it's exciting to be a part of it. I truly believe our fans have a lot to look forward to. Everything that's been done since last year makes me optimistic that we will have a lot of success this season. If you don't have your season tickets, get 'em now! You're not going to want to miss what we have in store."
Argonauts Head Coach Bart Andrus remarked, "We are pleased to extend Kerry. He's a proven player in the CFL and developed into our offensive leader last season. We think Kerry's leadership will be very positive for our football team for the 2009 season and beyond."
Joseph started 17 games for the Argonauts in 2008 and was twice named CFL Offensive Player of the Week (4 & 19). He was arguably at his passing best in the last four games of the season. Against Winnipeg, Montreal, BC and Saskatchewan, he completed 90 of 139 passes, 64.7%, for 1,302 yards and 11 touchdowns. The 2007 CFL Most Outstanding Player thrilled the Rogers Centre crowd on July 20 when he orchestrated an 11-play, 109-yard drive and dove into the endzone to defeat Edmonton in the dying seconds of the game.
His 536 attempts, 307 completions and 4,174 passing yards make him just the second Argos quarterback (Damon Allen, 549 attempts for 352 completions and 5,082 yards in 2005) in the last decade to pass for more than 4,000 yards, throw more than 500 attempts and complete more than 300 passes in a season. He passed for at least 300 yards in six different games this season, and set a single-game career-mark with five touchdown passes against Montreal in week 18.
