February 28, 2003 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Toronto Argonauts News Release

The Argos entered into the 2003 CFL free-agency period with Canadian talent at the top of their wish list, and today, the team announced that two of those wishes came true with the signings of free-agent non-import defensive linemen Noah Cantor and Wayne Weathers. As per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

"Whenever you are able to add two talented players like Noah and Wayne you get excited," said Argos head coach Michael "Pinball" Clemons. "Consider the fact that they are both Canadian and you get doubly excited, which we are and we know that our fans will be too.

Defensive Tackle Noah Cantor (6'4", 264 lbs., Born: January 11, 1971) re-joins the Argos after spending the past five seasons with the B.C. Lions. He was originally acquired as a free-agent by Toronto in 1995, going on to spend three seasons with the Argos, winning back-to-back Grey Cups in 1996 and 1997. Cantor signed as a free-agent with the Lions in 1998 where he went on to play five seasons in Vancouver. An Ottawa native, Cantor was a three-time All-Canadian during his five-year college career with the St. Mary Huskies and was nominated twice for the J.P. Metras Trophy.

Defensive End Wayne Weathers (6'4", 255 lbs., Born: June 4, 1973), a Toronto native, joins the Argos for his sixth CFL season. Weathers, who recorded 24 tackles, 5 quarterback sacks and 4 fumble recoveries in 2002, spent five seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers after being drafted in the sixth round (44th overall) in the 1997 CFL Canadian College Draft. An elite-level wrestler, who won a bronze medal at the 1999 Pan-Am Games and was an alternate for the 1996 Canadian Olympic Team, Weathers played his college football with the University of Manitoba Bisons where he also excelled in the classroom, being named to the 1995 All-Canadian Academic Team.

Both players will be with the team as the Argos kick-off training camp 2003 in May at their University of Toronto at Mississauga training facility at Erindale Campus.

The Toronto Argonauts, North America's oldest professional football team, celebrate their 130th anniversary in 2003 with 14 Grey Cup championships to their credit, the most in Canadian Football League history. For Argo ticket information call (416) 545-1777.
