Areinamo Homers in 6-5 Loss in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Jadher Areinamo went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in the fourth and a game-tying two-run single in the ninth, both Tayden Hall and Gregory Barrios had RBI doubles, and starter Logan Henderson struck out eight, but the Myrtle Beach Pelicans walked off the Carolina Mudcats 6-5 on Saturday night at Pelicans Ballpark.
The Pelicans (9-8, 48-34) originally led 2-0 in the third after David Avitia connected on a two-run home run off Henderson. The Avitia homer accounted for both of Henderson's runs over his five inning start. Henderson also finished with eight strikeouts while reaching a career- high 96 pitches (66 strikes).
The Mudcats (41-38, 8-8) chipped away to tie the game at 2-2 with Areinamo's solo home run in the fourth and a game-tying double from Hall in the fifth. The home run was Areinamo's second of the season and second of three hits in the game.
The game was tied at 2-2 from the fifth through the sixth before Barrios broke the tie with a RBI double of his own in the seventh.
Carolina owned a 3-2 lead going into the home half of the seventh, but the Pelicans rallied for three in that same frame with help of two costly Carolina errors while taking a 5-3 lead. The seventh started with a throwing error by Barrios and later continued with the tying run scoring on a force and two on a two-out, throwing error by reliever Jesus Rivero.
The Mudcats were down 5-3 going into the ninth, but managed to load the bases with two outs before Areinamo connected on his game-tying single to center that tied it at 5-5. Areinamo's hit came in a two-strike count off newly inserted reliever Scott Kobos.
Reliever Kenyi Perez was on the mound for most of the ninth, but left after walking Hall and Luke Adams to load the bases ahead of Areinamo's hit. Perez also gave up Barrios' double in the seventh. Reliever Koen Moreno gave up the two early Carolina runs while going through three innings. Kipp Gray started and worked through three scoreless with three walks and three strikeouts.
Carolina reliever Jeison Pena worked the last of the ninth and walked a batter moments before giving up a walk-off single to Pedro Ramirez. Pena (L, 4-2) walked one, allowed one hit and struck out two while taking the loss.
The loss snapped Carolina's four-game winning streak and moved them into a 1-1 series tie with the Pelicans on Sunday night at Pearl Park.
