Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, FL (August 9th, 2011) - *Miracle right fielder Oswaldo Arcia powered Fort Myers past the Bradenton Marauders, 6-3, with a 3-for-5 night including two doubles, a homer and three runs driven in at Hammond Stadium on Tuesday evening.

With the Miracle leading 4-3 in the seventh, Arcia crushed the first pitch of his at-bat against Marauder reliever Jason Erickson over the 405-yard marker in dead center field. Fellow Venezuelan Josmil Pinto followed Arcia with a homerun of his own, smashing a 2-1 fastball from Erickson over the left field wall to go back-to-back and extend the lead to 6-3.

Fort Myers opened the scoring in the first inning when Arcia doubled in Aaron Hicks with a flare down the line in left. The Marauders answered in the second when Chase d'Arnaud, on a MLB rehabilitation assignment, homered off Miracle starter Tom Stuifbergen to tie the game, 1-1.

Bradenton took the lead on a RBI single from Adalberto Santos in the fourth, but Fort Myers responded with a sacrifice fly from Steve Liddle in the bottom of the inning.

The Marauders threatened Stuifbergen with a big inning to start the fifth with back-to-back singles that led to runners at second and third base with no outs. After yielding a sacrifice fly to Ramon Cabrera, Stuifbergen struck out Evan Chambers and got d'Arnaud to fly out to right.

Down 3-2, the Miracle took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nick Romero began the rally with a soft single to center off Marauder starter Brandon Cumpton. Hicks was then walked and Arcia followed with his second RBI double of the evening to draw even, 3-3.

After Josmil Pinto was retired on a pop-up, Angel Morales hit a routine groundball to short, but first baseman Colin White could not hold onto the throw from Benji Gonzalez and Hicks came into score and give the Miracle a 4-3 lead.

Arcia, Morales, James Beresford and Dan Rohlfing each registered multi-hit nights.

Stuifbergen (5-8) picked up the win, pitching perfect sixth and seventh innings. The native of Breda, Netherlands scattered eight hits and gave up three runs with five strikeouts and no walks. Bruce Pugh earned his 13th save, allowing one hit in the final two innings. Stuifbergen and Pugh combined to retire 15 of the last 16 hitters.

Cumpton (2-2) was ousted in the fifth inning after giving up four runs, three earned, on seven hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout.

The Miracle (52-63, 18-27) host the Marauders (58-57, 28-17) in game two of the series on Wednesday evening at Hammond Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Tune in to every pitch on www.miraclebaseball.com with the 'Voice of the Miracle' Alex Margulies and Brice Zimmerman.
