September 8, 2023 - Northwest League (NWL)
Eugene Emeralds News Release
The Eugene Emeralds dropped game 3 against the AquaSox by a final score of 8-1. The Emeralds record now is 64-65 this season.
The AquaSox jumped out to an early lead in the first. Cole Young started the game off with a single and a couple of batters later Ben Ramirez hit a sac-fly RBI to score Young and give Everett a 1-0 lead. In the 3rd inning the Frogs added a pair of runs. Hogan Windish hit a single and drove in Harry Ford on the play. Josh Hood followed it up with an RBI-Single that scored Gabriel Gonzalez and the AquaSox had a 3-0 lead over the Ems through the first 3 innings.
In the 4th inning is when the AquaSox really opened the game up. Gabriel Gonzalez started off the inning with a single and Hogan Windish belted his Northwest League leading 22nd home run of the season. Josh Hood drew a walk and two batters later Bill Knight hit the 2nd 2-run home run of the inning and Everett had a 7-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 7th inning Everett added their 8th and final run of the night. Josh Hood singled to start the inning and Victor Labrada hit a single to score Hood and to give Everett an 8-0 lead. The Emeralds were shutout through the first 8 innings, but to start the top of the 9th inning Grant McCray led it off with a solo home run Eugene's lone run of the ballgame. It was McCray's 14th home run of the season after eclipsing 50 stolen bases last night on the season.
It was a tough night all-around for Eugene, as they dug themselves a hole early and the offense wasn't able to get much going at the plate. Eugene ended the night with 3 errors while the AquaSox committed 1. Daniel Blair got the start and went 4 innings and gave up 7 hits and 4 earned runs. He didn't walk a batter and struck out 3. Matt Mikulski pitched the next 2 innings and allowed 2 hits and 3 runs while striking out 3. Wilkelma Castillo pitched the 7th and the 8th inning and gave up 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 1 Everett batter.
Everett has now taken the first 3 games of the series, and Eugene will look to rebound tomorrow. They need to take 2 of the next 3 games to end the season with a .500 record. It's an afternoon game tomorrow at Funko Field with first pitch set for 1:05 P.M. Hayden Wynja is on the mound for Eugene.
