Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash.- The Everett AquaSox (34-30) were victims of their third straight one-run loss Tuesday night. The Eugene Emeralds (30-34) received a strong starting pitching performance from Jorge Reyes on their way to edging the AquaSox 4-3 in the series finale.
With two outs in the bottom of the third the Eugene Emeralds did the first scoring of the game. Edinson Rincon hit his second home run in as many nights, as he hit a solo shot over the centerfield wall to give the Emeralds a 1-0 lead.
The AquaSox finally got to Eugene starter Jorge Reyes the second time through the batting order. Anthony Phillips led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run - marking the second straight night he has gone deep. The home run tied the game at 1-1.
The Emeralds took the lead in the top of the fifth when Dean Anna hit a one out double and was followed by a Jason Codiroli single. Vincent Belnome hit a sac fly to left field to score Anna. The second run of the inning came in to score on an Edinson Rincon single to give the Emeralds a 3-1 lead.
Eugene extended their lead in the top of the sixth when Ty Wright doubled and was followed by a Griffin Benedict single. Kevin Winn hit a sacrifice fly to score Wright to make the score 4-1.
The AquaSox began to make their comeback in the bottom of the sixth when Anthony Phillips and Matt Cerione hit back-to-back singles with one out. Gerardo Avila drove in Phillips with a single to cut into the lead at 4-2.
James Jones led off the bottom of the seventh with a single before Ben Billingsley singled to send Jones to third. Jose Rivero added a single to score Jones closing the gap to 4-3.
That was the closest the AquaSox would come to the Emeralds as Nick Greenwood (S, 4) pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning to pick up the save in the 4-3 victory.
The AquaSox will hit the road for three games against the Salem Keizer Volcanoes beginning Wednesday. Taylor Stanton (3-3, 4.08 ERA) will get the start for the AquaSox in game one of the series. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
