February 1, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
Angela Ruggiero, a three time Olympic medal winner with the U.S. women's ice hockey team, will return to the scene of one of her historic events on Groundhog Day. She will take part in the ceremonial face-off when the Tulsa Oilers host the Austin Ice Bats Friday at 7:35 p.m. at the Tulsa Convention Center.
It was January 28th, 2005 when Ruggiero became the first woman non-goaltender to skate a regular shift in a men's professional hockey game in North America, playing for the Oilers against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. She added to the historic event, registering an assist in the third period in the Oilers 7-2 win that night.
Ruggiero, sister of Oilers goaltender Bill Ruggiero, is currently featured in the NBC show The Apprentice LA. She won a gold medal with the U.S women's hockey team in 1998 in Nagano, Japan; won a silver medal in 2002 in Salt Lake City; and won a bronze medal in 2006 in Turino, Italy.
The Hockey Hall of Fame features memorabilia from her stint with the Oilers, in which she and Bill became the only brother and sister duo to play in a pro hockey game in North America.
Friday's game is also a Tulsa World Family Pack night. Families can get four tickets, four hot dogs, four soft drinks, four souvenir hockey pucks, four game programs, and four Oilers pennants ($108 value) for only $54. It also starts a stretch of five of the Oilers next six games at home.
Tickets are available at the Carson Attraction box office located in the Tulsa Convention Center, all Drug Mart locations and by calling (918) 584-2000.
