Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
Hidalgo, Texas-The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees never recovered from a 2-0 first period deficit and fell 3-1 to the Corpus Christi Rayz Thursday night at the Dodge Arena.
Chris Mei scored the game-winner and his first goal of the season for the Rayz, while Matt Reynolds bagged the lone score for the Bees. Rio is now in fourth place in the Southeast Division, two points behind Austin.
The Rayz picked up two of their three in the first period with Ryan Carter shoving home his 15th goal on a pass from Nicklas Lindberg and Blair Stayzer just 40 seconds into the first. With just 3:02 left on the clock, Mei picked up his first goal of the season and first in over a year to put the Rayz on top 2-0.
Corpus made it a 3-0 game only nine seconds into their seventh power play when Matt Turek converted at the 3:52 mark of the third. Bees starting goalie Jeremy Symington was lifted at that point in favor of Jeff Van Nynatten.
Reynolds netted a shorthanded goal for the Bees with 5:51 remaining, but that would be it for Rio...
Ron Vogel earned the win in net for the Rayz stopping 27 of 28 shots. Symington suffered the loss with 18 saves on 21 shots, while Van Nynatten stopped all three shots he faced.
The Bees (16-19-6) travel to Corpus Christi (23-15-5) to face the Rayz on Friday, and then return home on Saturday to close out the home-and-home-and-home with the Rayz. Game time set for 7:00 p.m. in Corpus and 7:30 p.m. at the Dodge Arena. The first 1000 fans Saturday night get a Bees team card set.
