WCL Wenatchee AppleSox

AppleSox Welcome Gems for 3 Games

June 14, 2013 - West Coast League (WCL)
Wenatchee AppleSox News Release

The Wenatchee AppleSox are coming back home after a quick road trip to Bellingham. The 3-game series with the Bells did not get off to a good start for Wenatchee as the team dropped the first 2 games 6-9 and 4-5 respectively. Defensively, the AppleSox were stung by the error bug as they committed 6 errors over the first 2 contests. The third game of that series starts tonight at 7:05.

The Hometown boys will look to right the ship with the Klamath Falls Gems during a 3-game series at home at Paul Thomas Sr. Field. First pitch on both Saturday and Monday will be at the traditional 7:05 time slot. Sunday's contest will feature an early start with the first pitch to be thrown at 6:05.

Wenatchee hopes to play well at home against Klamath Falls. Last year the AppleSox swept the Gems at home in a 3-game set in which they outscored the Gems 15-10.

Klamath Falls looks to be a formidable opponent for Wenatchee as they have jumped out to a quick 4-1 start, good enough for first place in the Southern Division. All 4 of the gems league wins are part of their current winning streak, which is the longest running in the league after Victoria's loss to Medford last night.

The first game of the series (June15th) is sponsored by Frontier Communications who will be giving away some great prizes and by the employees of Alcoa.

On Father's Day this Sunday, bring Dad to the ballpark for our early 6:05 game, sponsored by Wenatchee Valley Medical Center. What better way is there to celebrate dads day than a baseball game?

In the series finale Wenatchee Rotary presents Westside High Night. Feel free to stop by Westside High from 5-7 for a pre-game Open House. School staff will be on hand to talk about the new building, and every visitor gets a free ticket to the game!

AppleSox Bring on Pair Dons

San Francisco Duo Looks to Spark Wenatchee's Lineup

There have been a couple of roster additions to Wenatchee's lineup card. After losing several players to the MLB draft, head coach Ed Knaggs had to find a few more players. Fortunately, Knaggs was able to nail down a deal with a duo of Don's from San Francisco. Infielder Bob Cruikshank and right handed pitcher Houston Hibberd both joined the team in during the series with Bellingham. While Hibberd has yet to make his AppleSox debut Cruikshank has started the last 2 games at third base, and was able to knock out a base hit in this first game with the AppleSox.

Bob Cruikshank (Kirkland, WA) just wrapped up his sophomore season with the San Francisco Dons in which he started 57 games. The third baseman batted .289 for the Dons with 59 hits and 30 runs batted in.

Houston Hibberd (Los Gatos, CA) only pitched 2.2 innings for the Dons this season. At his previous school, West Valley College, Hibberd was named First-Team in the Coast Golden Gate Conference, and made 23 appearances with 36 innings pitched and 26 strikeouts including a 3.25 ERA.
