Medford Rogues News Release

VICTORIA, B.C. - The Medford Rogues dropped a wild one in Victoria tonight, losing 12-11 to the HarbourCats as Victoria scored five in the bottom of the ninth to take the series from Medford.

Ashland native RHP Jamie Flynn started for the Rogues, going five innings with three earned runs given up. The bullpen then came in to give up nine runs over the last four innings to give the win to the HarbourCats after the Rogues had built a 9-1 lead through five.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Rogues scored three in the third on a two-run triple by A.J. Balta and a sacrifice fly by Matt Page. Medford added two more as Quentin Urban walked and moved around the bases on a sacrifice and wild pitch to score the first run of the inning. A double by Shakeel Newton followed a single by Colin Sowers. A single by Caleb Palensky scored Newton to make it 6-1 after four innings.

Medford tacked on two more in the fifth to chase Victoria starter Joe Navilhon. Logan Lombana relieved Navilhon and let one runner in to end the top of the fifth with a 9-1 Rogues lead.

The HarbourCats struck back with four in the sixth on a series of hits, walks and hit batters by Flynn and reliever Christian Morrison. Bret DeRooy came in for Morrison to stop the bleeding and the sixth ended with a 9-5 Medford lead.

A two-run homer by HarbourCats C Alex Real cut the lead to 9-7 in the bottom of the eighth, but Medford answered with two in the top of the ninth to make it 11-7. Rogues catcher-turned-closer Bo Cornish gave up five runs in the ninth on three walks and three hits. Medford moves to 4-5 on the season while Victoria drops to 5-1.

The Rogues return home Saturday night to host the Walla Walla Sweets in the first game of a three-game series, part of a six-game home stand.
