July 30, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay , WI. - Green Bay Bullfrogs starting pitcher Jason Applegate (Junior. Villanova) tossed seven shutout innings with just two hits allowed to lead the host Green Bay Bullfrogs (23-36, 11-12) to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Kenosha Kingfish (28-30, 15-9) at Joannes Stadium Monday evening. The Bullfrogs improve to 5-2 against the Kingfish this season.
The Bullfrogs did not need much offense tonight due to stellar pitching and defense. The Frogs have gone five straight games without committing an error.
A two-run, two out single by Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.) in the third inning gave the Bullfrogs an early 2-0 advantage. Kenosha cut the deficit in half in the eighth with a RBI ground out from Scott Dubrule to make it a 2-1 game.
Green Bay tacked on a much-needed insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with a RBI safety squeeze by Andre Antone (Freshman, UC Irvine) to extend the advantage to 3-1.
Mihalik finished 1-for-4 with two runs scored, while Blaise Maris (Sophomore. Florida Tech), Adrian Damla (Sophomore, UC Irvine) and Preston Pavlica (Junior, Grand Canyon Univ.) all tallied one hit each and scored one run. Keaton Smith (Junior, Nevada) went 1-for-4 with a double.
Applegate earned the win after his stellar performance on the mound, improving to 3-2. Kenosha starting pitcher Denson Hull took the loss, falling to 3-2. Green Bay relief pitcher Ben Keizer (Sophomore, Michigan) earned his first save of the season.
The Bullfrogs and Kingfish wrap-up the series tomorrow night, playing their final game against each other in the 2018 season. First pitch is slated for a 7:05 p.m. start from Joannes Stadium.
