Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release
It was another exciting finish Tuesday at Subway Field as the Border Cats rallied three times to knock off the Mankato MoonDogs 6-5 in 10 innings for their fourth straight victory. The game was played before a school day crowd of 715 enthusiastic fans at Subway Field. The Cats were down 3-0 in the 8th inning, but came back to tie the game 3-3 with Ryan Casillas (Southern Illinois University) doubling home two runs to knot the score. The MoonDogs regained a 4-3 lead in the top of the 9th as Chase Simpson homered off Cats reliever Cameron Wood (Redlands Community College). Thunder Bay again bounced back with Alex Bautisa (Clarendon College) belting a pinch-hit home run that just missed hitting the left field scoreboard to send the game into extra innings. The MoonDogs went ahead 5-4 in the top of the 10th when Ryan Rosthenhausler homered, but the Cats weren't finished. Casillas doubled again to tie the game 5-5 and then Ty Stetson (Murray State University) worked a bases-loaded walk to bring home Jason Vosler (Northeastern University) with the winning run for the 6-5 victory.
Wood picked up the win in relief to improve to 2-0. The righthander pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs with four strikeouts. Thunder Bay starter Ryan Atwood (Florida Gulf Coast University) had a very impressive debut on the mound. The southpaw, who missed the entire collegiate season due to a bone spur in his left elbow, allowed only one hit over four innings. Atwood, who was working on a pitch count, struck out seven before departing after throwing 74 pitches.
The Cats (4-3), hit the road for a four-game trip beginning Wednesday in Willmar, where they open a two-game series against the Stingers. Caleb Smith (Rice University) will get the start for Thunder Bay.
