The La Crosse Loggers got off to a hot start in game one of a doubleheader on Wednesday, and rolled on to sweep the Bullfrogs by scores of 5-0 and 13-8.

The Loggers scored one run in the first, third and fifth innings of game one, before tacking on two more in the sixth. Troy Trazler (Minnesota), Brandon Defazio (College of San Mateo) and Nick Day (Iowa) each had an RBI for the Loggers in the game.

Against starter Steve Hagen (Wooster College) the Bullfrogs did not get a runner on base until the sixth inning, and did not tally a base hit until the seventh and final inning. The Bullfrogs staged a late rally but stranded the bases loaded in the seventh.

Robert Youngdahl (Notre Dame) took the loss for Green Bay. Hagen earned the victory for La Crosse.

In game number two, the Loggers got right back at it again offensively. La Crosse tacked on four runs in the first and four more in the third to make the score 8-1, after Green Bay scored one but stranded the bases loaded in the second.

The Loggers tacked on an insurance run in the fourth and three more in the fifth. In the three-run fifth inning, the Loggers did not record a base hit. Four walks were issued by Bullfrog pitching in the frame.

Green Bay was able to tack on two runs in the fifth inning on RBI from Bryant Burleson (Texas Tech) and Jimmy Coady (UW-Stevens Point).

The Loggers would add on one final insurance run in the sixth inning giving La Crosse what turned out to be a much-needed ten run cushion.

The Bullfrogs would continue the scoring they started in the fifth inning in to the sixth inning. The Bullfrogs reached and scored their first five batters of the inning as J.D. Crowe (Auburn), Cabe Reiten (Gonzaga), Robert Youndahl (Notre Dame), Bryant Burleson (Texas Tech) and Tripp Martin (Samford) all came around to score to narrow down the lead to 13-8.

La Crosse had its second scoreless inning of game two, allowing the Bullfrogs the opportunity to mount a comeback. The Loggers brought in RHP Michael Lowden to pitch a scoreless seventh inning, giving the Loggers a 13-8 victory to secure a doubleheader sweep.

Derek Peterson (Gonzaga), who got the start and gave up eight earned runs, took the loss for Green Bay in game two.

Green Bay now starts a four game road trip traveling to Eau Claire and La Crosse for two two-game sets. The Bullfrogs will return to Joannes stadium Monday June 10th to take on the WIsconsin Woodchucks for a stand alone home game.
