Wausau, WI - A late rally came up short as the Wisconsin Woodchucks (4-2) held on for a 6-5 win over the Battle Creek Bombers (4-3). Battle Creek scored two quick runs in the first innings. After two out singles by Matthew Fears and Derek Hasenbeck, right-fielder Matthew Goodson came through with an RBI single plating the first two runs of the game.

Cam Wysocki (L 0-2) started on the mound for the Bombers and appeared to have worked a 1-2-3 first inning however a dropped third strike and throwing error by catcher Drew Carlile allowed Matt Tellor to advance to third base. Tellor eventually scored later in the inning. Wysocki allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in the 2nd inning. He went 4 innings giving up 6 runs, 4 of them earned, while striking out 6.

Matt Thomas (W 1-0) stared on the mound for Wisconsin and did not allow a run after the 1st and limited Battle Creek to just 4 hits in 5 innings of work. Battle Creek would put runners at 2nd and 3rd with nobody out in the 7th inning, but Tommy Mirabelli and Cam Gibson were both thrown out at home trying to score. The Bombers trailed the Woodchucks 6-3 entering the 8th inning and got back-to-back singles from Clayton Truex and Jackson Glines. A double by Carlile scored both, pulling Battle Creek back to within 1. However Aaron Fossas worked a perfect 9th striking out all 3 Battle Creek batters he faced, recording his 1st save of the year. Battle Creek left 9 men on base. Alex Tukey (0-0) will make his second start of the season as Battle Creek will go for the split. First pitch set for 7:35 p.m.

The Battle Creek Bombers are members of the Northwoods League that has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other summer collegiate baseball league in America. For information on tickets call (269) 962-0735 or visit BattleCreekBombers.com.
