December 3, 2007 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Moncton Wildcats News Release

The Moncton Wildcats will play three more games this week including two on the road. They will begin the week with a match up against the PEI Rocket on Tuesday at the Charlottetown Civic Centre. The Rocket is only two points back of the Wildcats for 7th place in the Eastern Division. The Wildcats will then travel to Rimouski to face the Océanic on Friday and will battle the Acadie Bathurst Titan on Sunday afternoon at the Moncton Coliseum.

LAST WEEK

Thursday November 29th vs Shawinigan Moncton Coliseum 7:00PM

GAME NOTES:

For the Moncton Wildcats the way out of a slide was "hit hard and often". In their most physical game of the season, Moncton hammered the Shawinigan Cataractes 5-1 on Thursday night.

Matt Marquardt netted his 17th of the season from Randy Cameron at 5:25 of the first period to lead the Cats out of the lost column wilderness.

Rookie Devon MacAusland finally got his first goal in the Q at 6:44 of the second with Phil Mangan and Mark Barberio helping with the power play marker. Less than a minute later at 7:23, Sill got his first of two unassisted counters and the Cats were up 3-0 after 40 minutes.

New comer Jesse Biduke got his 3rd as a Wildcat at the 56 second mark of the third. Patrik Prokop broke Nicola Riopel's shutout bid with a short handed goal at 7:39 for the Cataractes only goal of the game. Sill with his second unassisted marker, a short handed effort at 18:25 rounded out the scoring.

Moncton edged Shawinigan 35-34 in shots on goal. Three Wildcats were picked as the three stars, Sill was number one, Riopel the second and Matt Brown got the third.

Friday November 30th vs Lewiston Moncton Coliseum 7:00PM

GAME NOTES:

After a sluggish start the Moncton Wildcats came back to provide another entertaining close game at the Coliseum on Friday night, losing to the Lewiston MAINEiacs 4-3 in a shoot out.

Lewiston controlled the first half of the contest but the second half belonged to Moncton.

The MAINEiacs scored at 3:41 of the first period, Stefan Chaput from Patrick Cusack and Stefano Gillati. Chaput got his second of the game and 14th of the season just over three minutes later at 6:58 on the power play with Denis Reul and Kevin Marshall drawing assist.

Gilliati put the MAINEiacs up by 3 at 18:42 of the second period with Chaput getting the assist for a three point night.

The Wilcats roared back in the third, a power play goal by Randy Cameron at 1:30 cut the margin by two, Mark Barberio and Matt Marquardt got the assists, then at 7:56 Scott Brannon with his 3rd of the season narrowed the margin to one, Chris Morehouse and Zach Sill set up the play. With an empty net, the Wildcats forced the game to overtime. Marquardt with his 18th from Barberio and Andrew Eastman at 19:38 made it a 3 all tie.

The five minute overtime failed to produce a winner and after 7 shooters, Kevin Marshall beat Nicola Riopel while Brannon failed on his equalizing attempt against Jonathan Bernier and the MAINEiacs got the extra point.
