October 4, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club held their 38th Annual General Meeting on September 25th in the Canadian Western Bank Lounge at the ENMAX Centre; below are some of the highlights of the meeting:
- Surplus/Deficit: team lost $70,805.00 during the 2022/2023 season
- Deficit was due to the WHL miss stating education liabilities by nearly $93,000.00
- Team operations made $24,449.00 prior to adjustment of the education liabilities
- Team saw an increase in attendance in 2022/2023 from 2,983 to 3,526 on average, but still fell short of pre- COVID levels on an average of 450 fans per night
- Pre-COVID, the hockey club averaged nearly 3,970 fans per game. In 2022/2023, average was 3,526
- Club believes that the attendance is due to building policies that have been put in place post-COVID which have cost the club nearly $225,000.00 annually
"Overall, we had a fantastic year on an operations standpoint. Sales were over budget on both ticketing and advertising while all departments did a great job managing expenses during the 20 22/2023 season," said Hurricanes General Manager of Business Operations Terry Huisman.
In addition, the Hurricanes Board of Directors have elected Suketu Shah and Cynthia Bester to the board while also re- electing Bill Reddick, Blayne Janssens and Rogers Simpson to three-year terms. Also, the Board of Directors appointed Mandy DeCecco-Kolebaba to the board for a one-year term.
Shareholders who were not in attendance at the 38th annual general meeting can view a copy of the financials by visiting the Hurricanes Office at the ENMAX Centre.
The Hurricanes return to the ENMAX Centre on Friday, October 6th when they welcome the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7:00pm in the first of a three-game weekend. Tickets for the game can be purchased by visiting the ENMAX Centre Ticket Centre, by calling 403-329-SEAT (7328) or online at www.enmaxcentre.ca.
