October 28, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery named forward Andrew Rowe the 10th captain in team history this morning after practice at the North Charleston Coliseum.
"I'm honored," exclaimed Rowe. "It's definitely an accomplishment I was not expecting. I'm not the only leader in the locker room. We have a dozen leaders in the locker room including the younger guys. Everyone is going to step up and contribute. It's going to put a little more jump in my step." Rowe, 26, currently leads the Stingrays in goals (2) and points (3) through four games. Last season, the Muskegon, Michigan, native finished second in the ECHL in goals (31), 19 in assists (35), fifth with 66 points and a plus-minus rating of +28 in 64 games with the Greenville Road Warriors, earning an All-ECHL Second Team selection.
"Going into the year, myself and assistant coach Ryan Warsofsky thought that we would take some time and not rush into a decision," Carbery mentioned. "We knew who are leadership group would be, but we didn't have an identified captain coming back from last year. We were able to look at the guys over the last month and we felt that Andrew Rowe was the right guy to name our captain for the 2014-15 season." Under contract with the American Hockey League's (AHL) Hartford Wolf Pack in 2013-14, Rowe added three points (two goals, one assist) in seven AHL contests. During the 2012-13 campaign, he ranked seventh in the ECHL with 72 points (29 goals, 43 assists) in 66 games with the Elmira Jackals and earned a five-game promotion to the Norfolk Admirals (AHL) adding one assist. In 146 career ECHL games, all with South Carolina, Greenville and Elmira, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound forward amassed 67 goals and 81 assists for 148 points. At the AHL level, Rowe racked up 27 points (17 goals, 10 assists) in 101 games with the Adirondack Phantoms, Admirals and Wolf Pack.
