Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Calgary, AB - With only minutes left to go to the NLL's trade deadline, the Roughnecks today sent Calgary product Andrew Biers to Minnesota in exchange for a 2nd and 3rd pick in the NLL's 2006 entry draft.
"Andrew is a quality lacrosse player," said General Manager Kurt Silcott, "and this was more of a numbers game for us heading into the playoffs.
"Several players who have only been able to play on a sporadic basis up to now, will soon be available full-time and we had to create space for them."
The deal is subject to NLL approval.
Silcott added, "We know that Andrew is a competitor and deserves to be playing somewhere, and frankly it just didn't appear he would get into many games for us down the stretch.
"Minnesota was looking to add a player like Andrew to their roster so the deal made sense for both the clubs and the individual."
He continued: "Other teams made inquiries about Andrew's services, which is a testament to his level of play. But ultimately it was Minnesota who made the best offer."
Biers, 24, is in his 3rd year in the NLL.
In 39 games with San Jose and Calgary, he has collected 55 points (16 goals, 39 assists) and 151 loose balls. He's also spent 24 minutes in the penalty box.
Biers, 6 ft. and 190 lbs., currently lives in Vancouver where he is a banker.
