Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, MA - (June 22, 2009) - Brockton Rox starter LHP Craig Anderson pitched a complete game and allowed just one unearned run on six hits in the rain on Monday in Worcester as the Rox captured a win in the first of three games against the Worcester Tornadoes.

Brockton gave Anderson a convincing early advantage with four, first-inning runs off of Tornadoes' starter RHP Alex Pena. The four run first was highlighted by LF Keith Brachold's sixth home run of the season. It was a three-run home run, giving Brachold a team-best 22 RBI on the year.

The teams' respective starters pitched scoreless frames after that until the home half of the fifth inning when Worcester got on the board with an unearned run on 3B Chris Colabello's RBI single.

Brockton answered back with a run in the top of the sixth when DH Palmer Karr drove in RF Jud Thigpen for the final run of the contest.

Anderson was in control for the duration of the game despite the sloppy conditions. He struck out a season-high seven batters and allowed just one hit after the fifth inning.

Prior to the game, the Can-Am League announced that Rox RF Jud Thigpen had been selected as the league's Batter of the Week batting .333 with three home runs and five RBI over the last week of play.

The Rox and Tornadoes pick up the series for game two on Tuesday night at Hanover Insurance Park in Worcester. RHP Wayne Lundgren (1-3, 4.01 ERA) will face Worcester LHP Zach Zuercher (1-2, 3.52 ERA). Tuesday's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
