
Anaheim Recalls Vatanen from Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. - The Anaheim Ducks announced Sunday that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Sami Vatanen from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim's primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Vatanen, 22, has registered seven points (2g. 5a) in eight games played with the Admirals this season. In addition, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound blue-liner has also totaled 15 points (6g, 9a) and a +3 rating in 42 appearances with the Ducks, including last night's win over Florida. He recently won a bronze medal with Team Finland at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, leading all defensemen in assists (5) and tied for fourth in scoring with five points.
Last season, Vatanen appeared in 62 games for Norfolk registering 45 points (9g, 36a), while also scoring two goals in eight games played with the Ducks. Vatanen is skating in his second North American professional season after three years playing in the Finnish Elite League (SM-liiga). A native of Jyväskylä, Finland, Vatanen was selected by Anaheim in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
On Friday night the Admirals battle the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins during the BB&T Hat Giveaway and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Night beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Admirals host the Penguins again Saturday night for the Operation Smile Night and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Night starting at 7:15 p.m. There is also a Post Game Skate with the Admirals following the conclusion of Saturday's matchup.
