Newark Pilots News Release
The Newark Pilots (7-8) lost 3-2 to the Mohawks of Amsterdam (7-9) on Thursday night in front of a crowd of 711 fans at Colburn Park.
The Mohawks also took the three-games series 2-1, which began with two games at Shuttleworth Park on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The game began as a pitchers' duel between Amsterdam's Jimmy Dykstra (LSU) and Newark's Carson Beauchaine (Saginaw Valley State). Both pitchers went 1-2-3 through the opposing team's lineup in their half of the second inning.
The first run of the game was an unearned tally by the Mohawks. Taylor Stark (Mississippi State) hit a deep bomb to left field off the glove of Adam Peacock (Lindenwood), and made it safely to third on the error. Stark was then hit home on a sacrifice fly from Kody Ortman (Northwest Shoals C.C.).
Down 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Newark scored their first run to cut the deficit to one. Randy Villa (San Joaquin Delta) hit a RBI single up the middle to score Ray Delvalle (Kentucky Wesleyan). The Pilots tied the game at 2-2 in the following inning.
The game-winning run for Amsterdam was scored by Parker Morin (Southern Idaho) in the ninth. Abram Williams (Radford) then made easy work of the Newark batters, striking out two of the three batters he faced while earning the save.
Dykstra went six full innings for the Mohawks, allowing one run and fanning five, however, the win went to reliever Derrick Brewer. Andrew Green went 2-for-4 with one RBI to lead Amsterdam batters.
Despite finishing the night with 11 strikeouts and allowing only two hits, Beauchaine wasn't able to secure the win. Matt Frahm (Lewis) was tagged with the loss for Newark in the final one and one-third innings he threw. Villa also finished the night 2-for-4 with one RBI.
The Newark Pilots return home again tomorrow, July 1 to face the Watertown Wizards at 7:05 p.m. The Mohawks will host the Albany Dutchmen, also at 7:05 p.m.
