Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods, Class A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, announce that RHP Jeff Ames and OF Andrew Toles have been named the Rays Minor League Pitcher of the Month and Minor League Player of the Month, respectively, for the month of April. Ames and Toles were key components in the best start in Hot Rods history with Bowling Green winning a record 18 games in April.
Ames went 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA in his first month with Bowling Green. During April, Ames' 22 strikeouts, 25.0 innings pitched, and 0.60 WHIP led all Hot Rods pitchers outright while his three victories tied with RHP Marcus Jensen for the team high. Ames also earned Midwest League Pitcher of the Week honors for the week April 15-April 21 after pitching five scoreless innings to start a 2-0, one-hitter in a Hot Rods win at Great Lakes on April 16.
Toles led Hot Rods hitters in a plethora of statistical categories through the end of April. Toles batted .368 and topped the Midwest League with 15 extra-base hits, including nine doubles, five triples, and one home run. His slugging percentage of .600 was also the best mark among all regular players within the Rays system during the past month.
