(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans announced today that the team will skate outdoors at Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park and Ice Rink at Manhattan Square from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20 as part of the City of Rochester's "MLK Skate to Commemorate" event.
The Amerks will participate in a team skate from 11:00 a.m. to noon that will be open to the public to watch. At noon, when the rink opens for public skating, members of the Amerks will remain on the ice to skate with fans and sign autographs from noon to 1:00 p.m. The Amerks open practice is presented by ESL Federal Credit Union and the City of Rochester.
Monday's team skate by the Amerks will be followed by the City of Rochester's Skate to Commemorate festivities to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which is designed to commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by carrying out his ideals of peace and service to others.
In addition to the noon session that the Amerks will take part in, Skate to Commemorate sessions will also be held at 1:50 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. There is a $2 admission fee which can be substituted with a donation of two new, non-perishable hygiene, cleaning, or household items to benefit the Center For Youth Foundation.
Skaters who need to rent skates (available for $3) are encouraged to arrive 20 minutes prior to their session. The rink is located at 353 Court Street Downtown at what was formerly known as Manhattan Square Park. For more information about MLK Park Ice Rink, visit www.cityofrochester.gov/mlkparkicerink.
