Amerks Spook Phantoms With 3-1 Victory

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans defeated the Adirondack Phantoms 3-1 tonight at The Blue Cross Arena. With the win, Rochester improves to 27-16-2-0 (56 points), while Adirondack falls to 20-19-2-1 (43 points). The game was the first meeting between the two teams since Rochester faced an Adirondack-based AHL team after the Adirondack Red Wings ceased operations following the 1998-99 season.

Michal Repik carried the Amerks with two goals, which proved to be the game winner and sole insurance goal, respectively. Jamie Johnson also added two assists for the hometown team.

The Phantoms scored the game's first goal at 10:14 as Jason Ward scored on a 2-on-1 break. Rochester quickly responded with a goal by Graham Mink just 24 seconds later from Johnson. Johnson is now on a six-game point streak (4+7). Rochester took its first lead of the night at 2:52 on a shorthanded goal by Repik from David Brine. Repik beat Johan Backlund with a snap shot to the blocker side. Repik capped the game off by scoring on the empty net as the clock expired.

Alexander Salak had 24 saves in his 21st win of the season and now holds a record of 21-6-0. Backlund stopped 26 for the Philadelphia Flyers affiliate.

The Amerks will complete their four-game homestand on Friday, January 29thas they host the Albany River Rats at The Blue Cross Arena. Faceoff is slated for 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. The game will also be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet channel 26.
