On The Ice: The Rochester Americans will have a busy few days of hockey, as the team will play three games, including two home contests this weekend. The Amerks (2-1-0-1, 5 points) are currently in third place in the North Division behind the Syracuse Crunch (3-0-1, 7 points) and the Manitoba Moose (2-2-1-1, 6 points). Toronto Roadrunners vs Rochester Americans

The Toronto Roadrunners continue their traveling ways by making a return trip to Rochester this Friday. Rochester defeated Toronto 1-0 last Friday at The Blue Cross Arena in the first ever meeting between the North Division foes. Amerks forward Paul Gaustad collected a short-handed goal in the third period, and goaltender Ryan Miller made 27 saves to earn the shutout between the pipes. Roadrunners goaltender Stephen Valiquette turned in an impressive 23-save performance. Overall, the Roadrunners have compiled a 2-3-0-0 record so far, after earning their second win of the season with a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phantoms on October 18th. After trailing 2-0 after two periods, forward Nate DiCasmirro collected two goals in the final frame to lead the ‘runners to the victory. So far this season, forward Jamie Wright leads the team in scoring with five points (3+2), followed by DiCasmirro (3+1) and forward Jani Rita (2+2) with four points. Valiquette leads the way in goal, posting a record of 2-2-0 and a goals-against average of 2.26.

Rochester Americans at Hershey Bears

The Amerks travel to the "Sweetest Place on Earth" for the first of two meetings this season with the undefeated Hershey Bears. The oldest current rivalry in the AHL, this will mark the 425th time these two teams have battled. Although the Bears lead the all-time series 195-176-53, the Amerks won the season series last year, with a record of 3-2-0-1. Rochester finished with a 2-1-0-0 record at Hershey, including a 3-2 overtime win on a goal by Milan Bartovic. Bartovic led the Amerks in goals in the series with four. So far this season, the undefeated Bears (4-0-1-0, 9 points) are currently in second place in the East Division, one point behind the Binghamton Senators (5-1-0-0, 10 points). The team is led by forward Brad Larson with six points (2+4) and Shane Willis (3+2) with five points. In goal, Peter Budaj leads the way with a 3-0-1 mark and a 2.20 goals-against average.

Syracuse Crunch at Rochester Americans

On Sunday, the Amerks battle their Thruway rival, the Syracuse Crunch at 6:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The game is the second of 12 meetings between the two teams. Last Saturday, the Crunch defeated the Amerks 2-0, behind a 39-save performance by goaltender Pascal Leclaire. This will be the 102nd time the Crunch and Amerks have faced each other. The Amerks lead the all-time series with a 50-38-13 record. The Crunch, who are celebrating their 10th anniversary in the American Hockey League this season, are currently in first place in the North Division (4-0-1-0, 9 points). Forward Brad Moran is third in the AHL in scoring with eight points (4+4). Leclaire is currently ranked third among goaltenders in the AHL with a .935 save percentage. On the season, the goaltending duo of Leclaire (3-0-0, 2.00 GAA) and Karl Goehring (1-0-1, 2.37 GAA) has been solid while backstopping the Crunch.

Television- Friday's home game against Toronto will be televised tape delayed on Time Warner Cable Channel 98. The contest will be aired on Saturday, October 25th at 12:30 p.m.

AROUND THE BOARDS:

· Amerks goaltenders Tom Askey and Ryan Miller have the lowest goals-against average in the AHL with a 1.25 GAA.

· Miller is also fifth in the AHL in save percentage with a .955%.

· The American Hockey League announced that Lowell Lock Monsters left wing Ryan Bayda has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 19, 2003. Bayda recorded four goals and one assist for five points in two games last week, as Lowell improved its record to 4-0-0-0 on the young season

SABRE TALK:

West Coast Warriors: The Sabres continue their six-game, 12-day road trip on the West Coast. The team has collected a 1-2-0-0 record so far, with goaltender Mika Noronen picking up a 2-0 shutout win against the Calgary Flames on October 18th. In the team's two losses, the Sabres were outscored 10-2. (Edmonton 4-1 and Vancouver 6-1). The team will play the remaining three games of the series stateside, with games on Thursday (at Los Angeles), Friday (at Anaheim) and Sunday (at Colorado).

Rayzor's Night: The Sabres will honor former Amerk Rob Ray on October 28th when the Sabres host the Minnesota Wild at HSBC Arena. Ray is the National Hockey League's all-time penalty minutes leader with one team accumulating 3,193 minutes in 889 games. In three seasons in Rochester, Ray collected 46 points (14+32) in 125 games. His 796 penalty minutes rank him tenth on the Amerks All-Time Penalty Minutes list.

Leader Board: The Sabres are currently in fourth position in the Northeast Division with four points (2-4-0-0). Sabres forwards Miroslav Satan and Chris Drury (1+3) lead the team in scoring with four points. Noronen leads all Sabres goaltenders with a 2.25 GAA.
