Allen Americans News Release
Independence, Missouri - The Allen Americans won Game 1 of their Western Conference Semifinal Series beating the Missouri Mavericks 2-0, behind a 34-save shutout by Riley Gill.
Allen's Greger Hanson, scored 1:10 into the opening period for his fourth goal of the playoffs, and then Casey Pierro-Zabotel slammed home a rebound on the power play in the second period for his third of the postseason. Those goals would be the only two goals of the hockey game as the Americans took away home-ice advantage from the Mavericks with a 2-0 victory.
"Our penalty was really good tonight," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. Riley was really good in net stopping everything that came his way."
Chad Costello picked up an assist tonight on Casey Pierro-Zabotel's goal to extend his point streak to eight games in the postseason. The Americans top-ranked power play went 1 for 4 on the man advantage (31.0%), while Missouri went 0 for 5 (16.7%).
"Riley Gill was amazing tonight," said Americans Defenseman Aaron Gens, who was on the bench tonight with Steve Martinson. When he gets in one of those zones, he's really tough to beat."
Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinal Series resumes tomorrow night at 7:05 PM at Independence Events Center. You can watch the game with Americans fans at The Franchise Grill & Bar in Plano. Tickets for Games 3, 4 and 5 are on sale NOW at www.ticketmaster.com or call 972-912-1000.
