Playoff Game Preview: Game 2- Adirondack at South Carolina, 7:05 p.m.

THE MATCHUP

The South Carolina Stingrays host the Adirondack Thunder for Game 2 of the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Semifinals this evening. The Thunder hold a 1-0 series lead after earning a 5-4 victory last night in Game 1 at the North Charleston Coliseum. Both clubs are coming off 4-1 series victories in the opening round, with South Carolina beating #7 Kalamazoo and the Thunder topping #3 Manchester. The two teams met three times during the regular season with South Carolina posting a 1-1-0-0 record versus the Thunder. The Stingrays are the all-time ECHL leader in playoff victories and are tied for the most Kelly Cup Championships with three.

LAST NIGHT'S CONTEST

In last night's Game 1, Adirondack bolted out to a 2-0 lead and led 5-2 after 40 minutes. Forward Derek DeBlois scored twice in the third period for South Carolina to keep the fans on the edge of their seats, but the Thunder held on for the win. Adirondack's five goals came on just 16 shots in last night's contest and they are now 4-0 on the road in the postseason, a streak the Stingrays will look to end tonight before the series shifts back to Glens Falls. In last night's contest, Joey Leach and Caleb Herbert also scored for South Carolina while Greg Wolfe and Ben Johnson each had a goal and an assist for the Thunder.

DEBLOIS BRINGING THE NOISE

Forward Derek DeBlois is enjoying a strong postseason so far in his sophomore year. The forward has seven points (three goals, four assists) in six games. After leading the Stingrays' as a rookie with 21 goals last season, DeBlois helped the team to the Kelly Cup Finals, scoring 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists) in the postseason.

STRIKING FIRST

Scoring first will be key tonight. Adirondack struck early yesterday, scoring just 23 seconds into the game on Peter MacArthur's wrap-around goal. During the regular season, Adirondack scored the game's opening goal 40 times, claiming 27 victories in those contests. They have scored first in four playoff games and have won all four. South Carolina scored first 42 times in the regular season and won 34 times. The Stingrays have scored first three times in the postseason and have won all three games.

DEVIN ADDS TO POINT STREAK

With an assist last night, South Carolina forward Joe Devin extended his postseason point streak to six games. He has eight points (five goals, three assists) in that span.

KELLY CUP EXPERIENCE

The Stingrays enter the playoffs with plenty of postseason experience. Six players of the Stingrays' roster were part of the team's run to the Kelly Cup Finals last season, including Derek DeBlois who finished third on the team with 29 points, and Joe Devin, who scored 13 goals in the playoffs. The club also has Bobby Shea on the roster who won a Kelly Cup in 2013 with the Reading Royals.
