
Americans fall to Fort Worth

Fort Worth, Texas - The long regular season series between the cross-town rivals comes to a close this weekend, as the Allen Americans and the Fort Worth Brahmas face off in a three game set. To date, the season series between the two clubs is in favor of Allen who has recorded 8 wins and 6 losses with half of the losses coming in extra time or shootout. Two of this weekend's games will be played at the NYTEX Sports Center with the final game played at the Allen Event Center on Sunday afternoon.
First to get on the board were the Brahmas when Ricky Helmbrecht notched his first goal of the year at 4:03, assisted by Taylor McReynolds and Cole Ruwe. Adam Pineault answered back for the Americans on the power play to bring the game level at 16:23 on assists from Tyler and Trevor Ludwig. The score remained unchanged through the opening frame which saw Allen outshoot the Brahmas 6-5. The second period also remained scoreless with the Brahmas outshooting the Americans 7-5 for a two period total 12-11 in favor of Fort Worth.
Early in the third period Fort Worth earned their second lead of the game when Tomas Klempa lit the lamp just 2:27 into the third frame, with Austin Mayer earning the lone assist. Fort Worth then extended their lead to 3-1 on a shorthanded goal by Tomas Klempa at the 7:46 mark. Austin Mayer then added a pair to cap the Brahmas scoring at 5-1; the first was unassisted on a breakaway at 16:33 and the second on the power play at 18:46. Assists on the Mayer power play goal went to Nick Schneider and Mike Salekin. With 29 seconds remaining Jarret Lukin redirected a Trevor Ludwig shot to cut the Brahmas lead to 5-2 where the score remained as time expired. Fort Worth held the edge in shots in the third period 10-9 and for the game at 22-20.
The Americans record now stands at 36-15-9 and they remain in first place in the Central Hockey League standings with a game in hand over second place Wichita and third place Fort Worth.
The Americans play game two of their weekend tripleheader against the Fort Worth Brahmas on Saturday evening at the NYTEX Sports Center with the puck drop scheduled for 7:30PM.
