Big Third Period Backs Brahmas' Rout of Allen

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS - The Brahmas (35-19-7) defeated the Allen Americans by the final score of 5-2 Friday night behind an explosive third period.
Fort Worth and Allen were tied 1-1 after 40 minutes of play, as each team notched a first-period score. Ricky Helmbrecht gave the Brahmas a 1-0 edge at 4:02 of the first period when he fired a wrister from the left face-off circle past Allen netminder Aaron Dell.
Adam Pineault evened the score at 16:23 as he deflected a puck in front of the net by Fort Worth goaltender Brad Fogal.
The Brahmas scored four unanswered goals in the third period to take a commanding hold over the contest. Tomas Klempa scored an even-strength goal at 2:27 and a shorthanded goal at 7:46 to give Brahmas a 3-1 lead. The Prestany, Slovakia native's shorthanded score was the Brahmas' eighth this season.
Austin Mayer scored twice - at 16:33 and 18:46 - to extend the Fort Worth advantage to 5-1. For Mayer, the two goals give him 12 this season.
With just 44 seconds remaining in regulation, a fight broke out that involved three players from each team. Allen's Garrett Clarke, Chris Doyle and Drew Daniels were all given fighting majors, as were Mike Salekin, Eric Tallent and Cole Ruwe for Fort Worth. Clarke and Salekin were also given game misconducts.
The Americans added a late power-play goal from Jarret Lukin, but the Brahmas came away with the 5-2 victory.
Fogal stopped 18 of 20 shots between the posts for Fort Worth, improving to 14-10-2 this season. Dell made 17 saves on 22 shots, falling to 20-8-6 in 2012-13.
With the win, Fort Worth pulls to within four points of the first-place Americans.
The two teams face off twice more this weekend. The Brahmas host the Allen Americans at the NYTEX Sports Centre tomorrow, Saturday, March 16 at 7:30pm. The team then travels to Allen Sunday, March 17 at 4:05pm to finish the regular-season series.
