Americans Edged by Bloomington 2-1

ALLEN, Texas- The first place Allen Americans fell to the Bloomington PrairieThunder 2-1 this afternoon in front of 3,537 at the Allen Event Center. Allen drops to 43-15-2 with the loss but continues to lead the Central Hockey League with 88 points.
Despite holding a 13-6 advantage in shots over the PrairieThunder in the opening frame, the Americans found themselves down after one period of play. Bloomington's Chris Cloud scored the lone goal of the frame with 8:52 remaining to give the PrairieThunder a 1-0 lead through twenty minutes of action.
Brett Holmberg extended the PrairieThunder's lead to 2-0 with a shorthanded tally 3:56 into the second period, but the Americans would fight back and get on the board when Bruce Graham's backhander from the red-line found it's way past Bloomington netminder Brad Phillips with 6:42 remaining in the frame. The goal was Graham's thirty-fourth of the season.
The Americans fought hard in the third period but were unable to find the equalizer as Phillips stood tall, stopping all 8 shots that Allen put on net.
Despite the loss, Chris Whitley was excellent in net with 27 saves on 29 shots. The Americans magic number to win the Central Hockey League's Governor's Cup remains at 2.
Allen will return to the ice of the Allen Event Center on Friday night with a 7:30 PM faceoff against the Tulsa Oilers, followed by a tilt with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Saturday night at 7:00 PM.
