Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release
The Bloomington PrairieThunder overcame unbelievable obstacles on Sunday and defeated the Berry Conference leading Allen Americans 2-1 on Sunday in Allen, Texas. With the victory, the PrairieThunder (34-18-6) have tied Colorado for second place in the CHL's Turner Conference and are only two points behind Rapid City for first place with eight games to play in the regular season. Bloomington still has three games in hand on Rapid City and two on Colorado.
The PrairieThunder was playing their third game in as many nights and had to travel five and a half hours from Odessa on Saturday night. In addition, the team lost an hour because of the start of Daylight Savings and had to get ready for a 2:00pm start time. Once the game began, the PrairieThunder again played two players shorthanded due to both Jason Dale and Brodie Sheahan being out of the lineup. The PThunder took a 1-0 lead in the first period as Chris Cloud scored at 11:08 with assists from Ryan McLeod and Travis Granbois. Then Brett Holmberg put the team ahead to stay with the game winning goal at 3:56 of the second period. The goal was shorthanded and unassisted and for Holmberg it was his team leading 21st goal. PrairieThunder goaltender had a strong game between the pipes stopping 34 of 35 Allen shots.
It was only the Americans eighth home loss of the year as they fell to 43-15-2. Bloomington wraps up the Texas trip with a record of 2-1-1, capturing five of a possible eight points in the CHL standings.
