Allen Americans News Release
Loveland, Colorado - The Allen Americans dropped a 4-3 contest to the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday night at Budweiser Event Center.
Former Americans defenseman Matt Register, scored the go-ahead goal for Colorado with a power play goal late in the third period, his second goal of the season, and the eventual game winner for the Eagles.
Riley Gill made his return to the net tonight for Allen taking the loss. Gill stopped 28 of 32 Colorado shots. The Eagles made the most of special teams scoring both a shorthanded goal as well as on the power play. Jesse Mychan scored twice for Colorado with his eighth and ninth of the season. With his ninth, Mychan now has the most goals in the ECHL.
The victory for Colorado ended their five-game losing skid, while the Americans dropped their fourth straight. Allen falls to 4-7-0 with the loss, and is now five points behind the first place Eagles in the Mountain Division.
"We felt and found some life tonight for a good portion of the game, said Americans Co-Captain Gary Steffes. "When you're battling through stretches like this, you have to cling to things like that and build off it. Obviously we have a lot to be accountable for and we will learn from it. This is a resilient group. I have full confidence we will get through this."
Greger Hanson scored his team leading sixth goal of the season, while Matt Willows added his fourth in five games since being assigned to Allen by San Jose. Harrison Ruopp had two assists in his Americans debut. Ruopp was assigned to Allen today by the San Jose Sharks. He played in three games with the AHL's San Jose Barracuda.
The Americans resume the four-game road trip on Friday night against the Utah Grizzlies. Allen returns home on November 19th against the Rapid City Rush.
