
Americans Defeat Silvertips, 6-3

Everett, WA - The Tri-City Americans came back from an early deficit to beat the Everett Silvertips Sunday night, 6-3. Tyler Maxwell got Everett off to a hot start with a first period hat trick and a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes of play. The Americans, led by first star of the night Brooks Macek, scored five unanswered goals between the second and third period to comeback and defeat Everett. Alex Theriau, Byron Froese and Kellan Tochkin collected two assists each for Everett.
It took only 34 seconds for Everett to score their first goal Sunday night. Maxwell, parked in the slot, received a Kellan Tochkin pass from behind the net beating Drew Owsley low left side for a quick 1-0 Everett lead. The Silvertips showed no signs of stopping collecting on their first power play of the night at 2:43. Maxwell picked up his second of the night after collecting a rebound from a Byron Froese shot and going five-hole on Owsley to increase Everett's lead to two. Tri-City cut Everett's lead to one after Brooks Macek scored his 11th goal of the season on the power play. Macek received a great backdoor pass from Sergei Drozd on the right wing to beat a sliding Thomas Heemskerk at 12:02. Maxwell completed the hat trick at 18:45 on the power play scoring his 23rd goal of the season. Maxwell grabbed a rebound that bounced off Owsley's pad and went to his stick in the left slot for a 3-1 Everett lead.
The Americans scored their second goal of the night from Neal Prokop at 2:59 of the second period. Prokop charged the net to find a loose puck before scoring his eighth of the season. Tri-City tied the game at 13:01 after a scramble in front of the net led to Jordan Messier's 14th of the year. Justin Feser gave the Americans their first lead of the game after scoring on the power play at 17:12. Feser received a pass from Messier in the slot before finding the back of the net for his 18th of the season.
Adam Hughesman added to the Americans lead at 12:59 of the third period. Hughesman gloved down the puck at the goal line and found the back of the net for his 13th of the season making the score 5-3 Tri-City. Prokop scored an empty net goal at 19:51 to conclude the scoring.
This brings the 'Tips record to 19-13-2-1 with 41 points in 35 games played. Everett concludes 2009 with an away game this Tuesday at Tri-City at 7:05, and a New Years Eve showdown against the Saskatoon Blades this Thursday at 7:05 pm in Everett.
