
Americans Bean Named WHL Player of the Week

KENNEWICK, WA - The Western Hockey League announced today that Tri-City Americans' defenseman Jake Bean has been named The WHL's Player of the Week for the week ending April 15th .
Bean, a first round selection (13th overall) by the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, registered eight points (0 goals, 8 assists) over the final two games of the four-game sweep of the Victoria Royals in the best-of-seven 2018 West Semi-Final series. Bean helped the team in their second consecutive playoff sweep which ultimately took the club to the Western Conference finals for the first time since the 2012 WHL Playoffs. The double sweep is a first for the 30 year history of the franchise.
In game three Tuesday, April 10th, Bean gave a career best performance, tallying five assists in the Americans 6-5 victory over the Royals. He was named the WHL's second star of the night. In the series clincher Wednesday, he assisted on three goals while powering the Americans 5-3 win at Toyota Center.
Bean was obtained in a January 6th deal with the Calgary Hitmen. The 6'1, 170-pound native of Calgary, AB has appeared in 219 career games, recording 196 points (49 goals and 147 assists), including 24 power-play goals, one short-handed goal and eight game-winners. During the Americans eight post-season contests, Bean has one goal, 13 assists and is a plus 15. Bean also captured a gold medal with Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, NY last January.
The WHL Western Conference finals begin this Friday, April 20th (7:35 pm) and Saturday, April 21st (7:05 pm) at Angel of the Winds Arena. Catch the games on NewsTalk 870 KFLD beginning Friday at 7:15 pm. Fans can watch the game at Kimo's Sports Bar in Richland each night.
The Americans return home to Toyota Center for Game Three of the series on Monday, April 23rd at 7:05 pm.
