Tulsa Oilers News Release
Going Bananas: The Tulsa Oilers square off against the Amarillo Gorillas tonight in a match up of two teams sitting in fifth place in their respective conferences. The top four teams in each conference will qualify for the playoffs.
Records: Oilers are 28-23-5 with 61 points, in fourth place in the Northwest Division. Amarillo is 27-24-3 with 57 points in second place in the Southwest Division.
Season Series: This is the sixth and final meeting of the regular season between these two teams. The Oilers have won two of the previous five meetings, including a shootout win and are 2-3-0 against Amarillo. The Gorillas are 3-1-1 against the Oilers, and have won the last three meetings between the two teams.
Last Night: The Oilers fell behind the Austin Ice Bats 3-0 after one period of play but rallied to tie the game in the second period and went on to win the game, 6-4. Amarillo dropped a 4-2 decision in Wichita last night.
A Perfect 10: The Oilers top three scorers combined for 10 points last night. Jaroslav Cesky led the way with two goals and two assists. Henry Kuster had two goals and an assist. Jim Dahl had a goal and two assists. The trio was also a combined +11.
Not Bad Themselves: Amarillo also features a very dangersous scoring line, including the league's leading scorer. Derek Hahn. He has 31 goals and 67 assists for 98 points. Scott Wray joined the Gorillas 12 games into the season but has amassed 66 points on 33 goals and 33 assists in just 42 games. And Joe Guenther, who began the season with the Oilers has clicked with his new linemates and has a total of 25 goals and 18 assists for 43 points. He has gotten 39 points in 34 games with the Gorillas.
Scoreboard Watching: Both these teams have a keen interest in tonight's game which pits Austin at Wichita, as Austin is one of the teams Amarillo is chasing and the Oilers are giving chase to Wichita. Tulsa is also keenly interested in the Oklahoma City at Bossier-Shreveport game, chasing Oklahoma City. Amarillo is also chasing Rio Grande Valley, which plays tonight at Lubbock.
Next Up: The Oilers return to divisional play when they host the Colorado Eagles on Tuesday night at 7:05. Amarillo returns home tomorrow for a key match up with Rio Grande Valley.
