Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Loveland, Colorado - The Colorado Eagles showed the Fort Worth Brahmas why they have the best record in the CHL on Friday night, scoring eight goals and holding the Brahmas off the scoreboard to cruise to a 8-0 win at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado.
Playing in front of a raucous sold out crowd of 5,289 (the 99th consecutive sellout for the Eagles), Colorado jumped on the Brahmas early. Eagles center Riley Nelson scored two goals just over two minutes apart in the opening period in to stake Colorado to a quick lead.
The Eagles continued their offensive onslaught in the second period. Nick Parillo, Greg Pankewicz, and Fraser Fillipic (PP) all found the back of the net in the first 4:56 of the middle frame. Fillipic's goal chased Larry Sterling, Fort Worth's starting goaltender, to the bench. Andrew Martin, Sterling's replacement, was welcomed to the game just 22 seconds later by Eagles center Chris Hartsburg's unassisted goal. A Scott Polaski powerplay score extended the Colorado lead to 7-0 after forty minutes of hockey.
In the third period, Colorado remained in control of the game. The Eagles outshot Fort Worth 22-7, but, thanks to several outstanding saves by Martin, Colorado could only manage one more goal, when Parillo scored his second of the game at the 17:24 mark of the third.
Sterling took the loss in net for Fort Worth, allowing the first five Colorado goals on 17 shots. Paulo Colaiacovo, the Eagles All-Star netminder, turned away all 27 Brahmas shots he faced to record his 25th win and second shutout of the season.
The loss for the Brahmas, their fourth in a row, now gives Fort Worth a 16-34-8 record on the season. The victory for the Eagles raised their impressive record to 39-12-6 on the season.
Fort Worth must regroup quickly, as the Brahmas will play the Eagles again at the Budweiser Events Center on Saturday night, March 11. Face off is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. CST. The game can be heard live on KHFX Fox Sports 1460 AM in the Fort Worth area.
BRAHMAS ROSTER MOVES:
The Brahmas were without the services of forward Chris Bain for Friday night's loss at Colorado. Bain was suspended by the CHL for one game for his accumulation of three fighting majors in the Brahmas 3-1 loss at Lubbock on Wednesday. Without Bain in the lineup, and because defenseman Ryan Fairbarn and Justin Coutu did not play due to injury, Fort Worth had just thirteen skaters in the lineup against the Eagles. Bain will play in Saturday's rematch with the Eagles, while Fairbarn and Coutu will be game time decisions.
