Frederick Keys News Release

ZEBULON, N.C-Behind a seven-inning outing from Cristian Alvarado, the Frederick Keys defeated the Carolina Mudcats 4-1 on Saturday night. The win snapped a nine-game losing streak which was tied for the longest slide since the Keys dropped 13 in a row from May 23-June 5, 2008.

Earning the win, Alvarado (8-6) allowed just one run on five hits over his seven frames. He struck out five, including a strikeout of Joantgel Segovia to end the seventh and keep it a 4-1 Keys lead.

Daniel Fajardo hit an RBI single in the second inning to get the Keys (39-47, 4-13) out to a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Frederick added to their lead. Jake Ring doubled, and moved to third on a Fajardo single. Alejandro Juvier grounded into a double play, but it allowed Ring to score.

The Mudcats (44-42, 10-6) scored their lone run in the sixth. Dallas Carroll began the frame with a single and advanced to third on a Demi Orimoloye double. A Weston Wilson groundout scored Carroll, but Alvarado avoided further damage by getting a fly out and a strikeout.

In the seventh, the Keys added two insurance runs. Chris Clare doubled to lead off the frame, and he was plated on a Ring two-run blast. It was Ring's third home run of the season, and gave the Keys a 4-1 advantage.

Mike Burke and Tyler Erwin pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth respectively, each recording a strikeout. Erwin picked up his team-leading eighth save of the year.

Braden Webb (5-6) produced a quality start for the Mudcats, but took the loss. He allowed two runs on five hits over six innings.

The two teams conclude their series on Sunday afternoon. Left-hander Alex Wells (3-5, 3.90) makes the start for the Keys. He will be opposed by right-hander Conor Harber for the Mudcats. First pitch is scheduled from 2:00 p.m., and the game can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio app.
