Erie SeaWolves News Release

Erie couldn't get the big hit in a 4-1 loss to Altoona on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park. The SeaWolves scattered ten hits on the night, but could only muster one run off of Curve pitching. Kyle Kaminska made his first start for Altoona, giving up the lone Erie run in his six innings of work. During his outing, Kaminska allowed six hits, walked none, and struck out four.

Erie took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jordan Lennerton led off the inning with a double down the line in left field. After advancing to third on a ground out, Lennerton would come around to score on an infield single to the pitcher by Brandon Douglas.

Altoona answered with a run of their own in the top of the fifth, when Andrew Lambo scored Drew Maggi on a sacrifice fly. In the sixth, Stefan Welch hammered the first pitch he saw over the fence in right field, giving the Curve a 2-1 lead. The homer was Welch's fifth on the year. Jeremy Farrell then singled and scored two batters later, when Andy Vasquez doubled to deep center. On a ground out to third by Maggi, Vasquez took off for third on the throw to first. After retiring Maggi, Lennerton fired the ball to third in hopes of cutting down Vasquez, but the ball skipped away from Corey Jones, enabling Vasquez to score.

The Altoona bullpen delivered three shutout innings to end the game, dropping Erie to 57-82 on the year. The win gets Altoona to the .500 mark, at 70-70. Kaminska got the win, while Erie starter Jared Gayhart was handed the loss. Gayhart went 5.1 innings, surrendering 4 runs (3 earned), on 10 hits, one walk, and five punch outs.

The four game series to close out the season continues tomorrow at 1:35 pm, with James Avery (10-12, 4.69 ERA) going for the SeaWolves. The Curve will counter with Tyler Waldron (1-2, 4.01 ERA).
