Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - A rested Altoona Curve pounded out 11 runs on 15 hits and twice sent at least nine men to the plate in an 11-3 win over the Binghamton Mets on Tuesday night at Blair County Ballpark. Andrew Lambo went 3-for-5 and fell a triple shy of the cycle while Josh Rodriguez homered and drove in three in the win.

Altoona first scored in an odd second inning that saw the Curve, who were down 1-0, send 10 men to the plate and score a total of four runs off starter Jeurys Familia (2-3). Lambo and Tony Sanchez singled to start the inning before Matt Curry struck out. Both runners moved up 90 feet during Quincy Latimore's at bat as Familia dealt a wild pitch to place the runners in scoring position.

Latimore then technically struck out, swinging at a third strike in the dirt. As he broke for first base to run out the ball in the dirt he incidentally made contact with the ball and knocked it up the first base line, allowing him to safely reach first. Lambo scored on the play to tie the game at one and Tony Sanchez also moved up to third to place the go-ahead run at third still with one down.

Yunesky Sanchez had a key at bat against Familia with the pitcher on deck as he battled to single in Tony Sanchez and place Altoona in front, 2-1. After pitcher Phil Irwin struck out, Starling Marte extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single that brought both Latimore and Yunesky Sanchez in to make it 4-1 Curve.

Familia wouldn't escape the second as he lasted just 1.2 innings and allowed all four runs on four hits.

Irwin (5-3) settled in after the first inning to only allow one other run during the rest of his five-inning outing. All told, Irwin allowed two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts over his five innings of work and left leading, 4-2.

The Curve then widened its lead with an RBI double in the fifth from Yunesky Sanchez, a Lambo solo home run in the sixth and then five more runs in the seventh. A three-run home run by Rodriguez capped the five-run seventh,, which also featured an RBI triple from Latimore and an RBI single from pitcher Bryan Morris.

Every position player in the Curve lineup had at least one hit on Tuesday night with Lambo and Yunesky Sanchez leading the way with three hits apiece. Matt McSwain worked 1.2 innings of scoreless relief before he turned it over to Morris. The right hander from Woodbury, Tenn. allowed one run in his 1.1 innings before Michael Dubee pitched a scoreless ninth.
