Alphonse returns to the frozen swamp

Lafayette, LA â The Louisiana IceGators announced today Alphonse the Alligator, the former IceGators mascot, will return to the Frozen Swamp for Pack the Dome Night on March 27, 2004 against the Gwinnett Gladiators. The IceGators are hoping to sell out the Cajundome for the first time since February 12, 2000. If the game sells out, all fans in attendance will be able to purchase beer and soda for 25 cents during the game.
The March 27 game kicks off Fan Appreciation Weekend, which is locally sponsored by KLFY Channel 10, and is the last Saturday home game of the regular season for the IceGators. Division challenger Gwinnett will play back-to-back games against the IceGators at the Cajundome on March 27 and 28. The IceGators are on pace to clinch their seventh consecutive division title and a sell-out crowd will create a home-ice advantage.
"A packed house means a lot more energy and excitement," said IceGators captain Bobby Brown. "Fans would probably see more adrenaline, harder hits, great goals and more than likely, some fisticuffs. We're like rock stars. The bigger the crowd, the better the show."
The IceGators are also teaming up with NewsRadio 105.1 KPEL to host "IceGators Idol," an audition of National Anthem singers for the first game of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. "IceGators Idol" will take place at the Mello Joy Coffee House on Ambassador Caffrey Parkway on April 2 at 7 a.m. The panel of celebrity judges, IceGators Head Coach Dave Farrish, KATC TV-3's Julie Kelley and "Voice of the IceGators" Bruce LeVine, will choose the winner that morning. Everyone is invited to come out and audition.
