
Almonte and Stein Power Nuts to Third Straight Win

Modesto, CA. - Troy Stein smashed two home runs in support of Yency Almonte's gem as the Modesto Nuts defeated the San Jose Giants 4-1 on Sunday night at John Thurman Field.
Almonte (W, 8-8) worked seven shutout innings to help the Nuts (16-21; 42-65) to their third straight win and a victory in the four-game set against the Giants (16-21; 55-52). Almonte struck out eleven to pad his California League lead and to take the Minor League lead in K's. The Nuts' righty worked around five singles and two errors committed behind him.
Tory Stein smashed his first home run in the second inning to get the Nuts' offense going. Wes Rogers drilled a solo shot in the fifth. Giants starter Mark Reyes (L, 8-5) surrendered a third home run when Stein whacked another solo shot to start the fifth. Stein finished 3-for-4 with a double as well to rack up ten total bases.
Luis Niebla (S, 8/8) worked around one baserunner to secure the Nuts' victory.
